Hey there, I’m Beth and I’m really happy you found your way here to Those Simple Things!
I try to keep our life as simple as possible and truly find joy in the little things—stunning sunset colours, the sound of a giggle or the warmth of a hug, the excitement when something pops up in the veggie patch, the satisfaction of creating something beautiful, or the simple joy of hearing something homemade being enjoyed. It’s all those small, simple moments that create the magic.

Loving the handmade, homemade, homegrown, and the joy of reusing, recycling, and repurposing things no longer useful, was instilled in me from a young age by my beautiful mum and grandma. Creating is heartfelt for me—it brings back treasured memories and keeps them both close to my heart every single day.
I remember fondly knitting with my grandma, watching in awe as she ‘picked up’ all my dropped stitches in my very holey scarf, and marvelling as her needles blurred with speed. I’d help my mum make jams from fruit we’d picked off our trees, pat butter into squares after churning the milk from our cow, gather veggies for dinner from the patch, learn to sew on the old push-pedal sewing machine (which I still have!), and master the art of baking family recipes passed down through generations. Now I get to make new memories as my son and I enjoy all these things together as well.
I’ll apologise in advance—my demos won’t feature perfectly manicured hands with freshly painted nails. Around here, those same hands might have been digging in the garden, painting wildly, preparing food, or hot gluing something just minutes earlier! Our home is full of animals and the beautiful chaos of home education, so you may spot a kitten streaking across the video, or hear strange or loud background noises—who knows what surprises will pop up!
So grab your yarn, paintbrushes, glue guns, gardening tools, pots and pans—and let’s get busy creating something magical together with our own hands (you might even need your feet or teeth at times too!). Don’t wor about where to begin—pick something that calls to you, and remember, your first attempt doesn’t need to be perfect. Creating is about enjoying the ride.
I hope you keep coming back to find all the new and exciting things I’ll continue to add. Leave me a message or comment if there’s something you like to
